Day 95

Crossing Nebraska while aboard the California Zephy,  October 18, 2016

“I am going to take year off to concentrate. When I come back I will be a different person”.

What will Obama, what will his memory as President do to him?

At the AT&T Office in San Francisco, I am waited on by a young Latino.

"What did you do before AT&T?"

“I was in the military in Afghanistan”.

“What was the worst thing you saw?”

“I saw a guy vaporize himself”

“What do you think of Trump?”

“I try not to pay attention to politics,”

“What if he tries to take away your right to vote?”

“No way. I fought for this country Trump can’t take that away.”

What will the President remember? What can he forget? What will be vaporized?

Left on History’s cutting room floor? And why?

Day 96

Pleasure sources its own fatigue.

The way Cottonwood trees go yellow in the Fall.

The juxtaposition: granite and brown

Dry mud riverbed.

The power of subtle in the absence of color

We charm our love with intensity.

No word of Obama.

No Trump or Hilary in the morning headlines.

The country is exhausted.

Someone declared a “Day Off”.

I happily comply

Among a rush of dying brown plants,

Random black and white clouds on the horizon

That remind the Eye of relaxed

Black ad white ocean whales and fishes

Black ad white ocean whales and fishes

Their backs slightly arched, their “dive pointed” noses

Slowly, shamelessly in search.
